For its research group “European Relations with China”, which forms part of the Dahrendorf project “Changing the European Debate: Europe and the world” and is chaired by Professor Dr. Genia Kostka, the Hertie School of Governance is looking to hire a part-time (50%)

The contract duration is 24 months with an earliest start date as of January 1, 2015 . Remuneration will be in line with E 13 TV Land Berlin.

About the Dahrendorf project:

Since 2010, the Hertie School of Governance, the London School of Economics (LSE) and Stiftung Mercator have cooperated to create bi-annual symposia and public research projets in honour of Lord Dahrendorf. The Dahrendorf research project is designed to continuously promote outstanding research and debate on global politics and Europe through the Dahrendorf Symposium and other events (seminars, lectures and workshops). The third project cycle (2015-2016) has a focus on the relationship between Europe and the core regions of the world economy (North America and East Asia), and especially its border zones: Russia and Ukraine, Turkey, North Africa (s. www.dahrendorf-symposium.eu for more information).

Your tasks:

  • Conduct research on various topics related to the Dahrendorf project, especially concerning the EU’s external relations to China
  • Assist the chair with coordinating the Dahrendorf working group
  • Organize Dahrendorf events of your working group (workshops, lectures and seminars)
  • Collaborate with the Dahrendorf management, all members of your working group and all other Dahrendorf research groups
  • Interaction with all Dahrendorf fellows in Berlin, London and other capitals

 

Your profile:

  • An excellent master’s degree in political science, economics, public policy/public administration, sinology, environmental studies, or a governance-related field
  • Previous academic work experience in China-related topics
  • Special interest in EU-China relations
  • High motivation, independence, and teamwork
  • Ability to conduct self-directed research
  • Strong organizational and communications skills
  • Fluently in English (working language at the Hertie School) and German (spoken and written), knowledge of Chinese/Mandarin is an advantage.
