The contract duration is for the fall term 2015 and spring term 2016. Remuneration will be in line with E 14 TV Land Berlin.

About the position:
The position is full-time (100%) and the successful candidate will perform some of the roles during the one year leave of the current Chair of Governance of Energy and Infrastructure (Prof. Genia Kostka). We are looking for an early- or mid-career scholar who combines a disciplinary background in social science (e.g., political science, environmental studies, economics, public administration, and area studies) with expertise in the governance of energy policy and/or energy economics and an interest in energy efficiency and energy transformation, and ideally with an interest in the governance of large-scale energy infrastructure projects. A regional focus on emerging markets, such as China, would be welcomed. If qualifications allow, the position could also be taken as a replacement professorship (Vertretungsprofessur).

Your tasks, in close coordination with the research team will include:
Engage in data collection, qualitative/quantitative data analysis and presentation
Development of scholarly articles jointly with other members of the team
Contribute to and participate in a new comparative research project on energy infrastructure policies and participate in a new comparative research project on energy infrastructure policies
Teaching three courses over the year, e.g., a core course on the policy process and energy policies and an elective on a topic related to energy/climate change policies.
Supervising master theses.
Limited administrative management of research project activities and events
Interaction with other research teams at Hertie School and the Dahrendorf Project on the EU-China Working Group

Your profile:
An excellent PhD in social sciences (political science, economics, environmental studies, area studies or other social sciences)
Ability to form your own research agenda that contributes to the work of the chair
Strong analytical skills and experience with qualitative/quantitative research methods
Excellent communication and organization skills
Experience and interest in proposal writing
High motivation, willingness to travel, independence, and teamwork
Fluent in English (spoken and written), the working language at the Hertie School. Proficiency in German and/or Mandarin would be an asset.
