The Department of East Asian Languages & Cultural Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Korean Cultural Studies. We welcome applications from scholars working in the Humanities and/or interpretive Social Sciences who study Korean culture, broadly conceived, and with expertise in any historical era, from premodern to contemporary. The Department and its PhD program have particular strengths in Modernity, Colonialism, and Globalization Studies; Visual, Film, and Media Studies; Gender and Sexuality Studies; Literature and Translation Studies; and Religiosity and the History of Ideas. Applications from scholars who pursue interdisciplinary approaches, analyze cultural technologies, use a transnational or global framework, and cross the premodern/modern divide, are especially welcome.
The successful candidate will be able to teach graduate seminars in Korean Cultural Studies, while also offering broader undergraduate courses. Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
The minimum requirement to be considered for this position is the completion of all requirements for a PhD except the dissertation at time of application. The PhD can be in any field in the humanities and interpretive social sciences with research specialization in Korean Cultural Studies.
