International Program MA Modern East Asian Studies, Goethe Universität Frankfurt – Application open until August 15/July 15

The Master’s degree program Modern East Asian Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt offers students the opportunity to explore East Asia’s present and past from various social scientific perspectives while sharpening their language skills in Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian or Korean. Due to its interdisciplinary orientation, the biennial M.A. program accommodates both students with a B.A. degree in Asia related cultural studies, and students with a B.A. degree in economics, law or social sciences. With more than 50% of international students, Modern East Asian Studies is a program which is completely taught in English.

Application
We welcome new applications for the coming winter semester until July 15 for Non-EU-citizens and August 15 for EU-citizens. Applications are made through the central online system of Uni assist e.V. (http://www.uni-assist.de/online-application.html).

Required are:
A Bachelor’s Degree in social sciences, political science, economics, business administration, law or related areas, or a Bachelor’s Degree in cultural studies with focus on China, Japan, Korea or South East Asia.

An English proficiency certificate, level B2 to C1. If your BA has been taught in English throughout, no separate English proficiency certificate is required.

Special eligibility, demonstrated by: Academic CV; a convincing motivation letter, naming at least one university professor as a reference; a research proposal of 2000 to 2500 words (including the bibliography) on a topic related to the regions and disciplines covered by the MEAS program. The research proposal shall demonstrate the ability to identify a current socio-scientific topic, to highlight its importance within a broader context and to develop convincing hypotheses. Applicants shall furthermore demonstrate their ability to structure their ideas in an academically sound manner and to use correct terminology.
