Date: 12th to 14th of May 2023, Halle (Saale)

In a time of geological (‘Anthropocene’) and geopolitical transformations, scholars of Asian studies are faced with the challenges of assessing, explaining, and following often conflicting developments.

Against this background, the 2023 edition of the biennial conference of the DGA’s Young Scholars Group seeks to decode some of these puzzles.

By reflecting on past and present phenomena in Asian societies from a wide variety of perspectives, the conference decidedly moves towards an analysis of Asian agency and how the continent is actively shaping our world.

Accordingly, our invitation is addressed to young and emerging scholars of Asian studies, who, in their research, contribute to questions on how the great geographical and cultural diversity we call Asia was, is and will become. We invite submissions from all kinds of Asia-related research fields, be it cultural studies, linguistics, social and political sciences, or other disciplines.

The conference will take place in Halle from the 12th to the 14th of May 2023, right in the centre of Germany on the banks of the beautiful river Saale, where there will be time and space not only for scientific discussion, but also for social exchange.
