Yale University’s Department of Religious Studies seeks to make an appointment in the field of Japanese Religions, beginning July 1, 2024. We are interested in reviewing applications from candidates for professorships at the assistant (non-tenured), associate (tenured), or full levels. We encourage applications from scholars who work within any humanities research methodology including but not limited to history, philosophy, literature, material culture, or ethnography, in particular those whose research is interdisciplinary and engages with other methodologies. The ability and interest to teach and mentor students working on both pre-modern and modern topics is essential. The teaching expectation is normally 4 courses per academic year, plus service to the program.

Qualifications

The appointee must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree or have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. by their start date.
