CfA: Assistant Professor – History of Modern East Asia
The University of St. Thomas invites applicants for a tenure-track position, at the rank of assistant professor, in the history of modern East Asia to begin September 1, 2025. Geographic and/or thematic specialization are open and scholars focused on pre-modern East Asia with interest and demonstrated ability to teach the modern period are welcome to apply.
The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong research agenda and a commitment to teaching historical content, skills, and methods to undergraduates. The teaching load of three courses per semester involves some combination of the following: intro-level courses including as East Asian Civilization and World History in fulfillment of the core requirement (typically in rotation), as well as upper-level courses in their area of specialization for undergraduate history majors/minors and students in the International Studies program. QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have a PhD (U.S. or Foreign Equivalent) in history or in a closely related field, or alternatively ABDs nearing completion of the PhD will also be considered, with the initial appointment made at the rank of instructor. All applicants must have demonstrable skills necessary for excellence in teaching and show strong potential for productive scholarly activities.
