The History Program at the University of Michigan-Flint seeks innovative and enthusiastic applicants for a tenure track faculty position beginning Fall semester 2025. The University of Michigan-Flint campus is located at the heart of downtown Flint, a city undergoing a remarkable transformation. The History Program at the University of Michigan-Flint provides internal funding opportunities to support faculty research and curriculum development. Responsibilities

  • Teach 18 credits per academic year (3 courses per semester), in World History surveys (HIS 112, 113, and 114), courses in the Dual Enrollment Educational Partnerships, core methodology courses (HIS 299 and 301), as well as other courses related to the candidate’s field of expertise
  • Establish an ongoing program of research
  • Carry out service obligations and contribute to the History’s Wyatt Exploration Program

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in History with a focus on East Asia from an accredited institution. An ABD PhD with a dissertation defense by May 2025 will also be considered
  • Demonstrated evidence of undergraduate teaching excellence with an ability to teach a combination of foundational courses such as World History surveys, core methodology courses for history majors, and develop innovative courses in their area of specialization, particularly in China and Japan
  • Ability to initiate and carry out research and sustain a program of scholarly publication
  • Willingness and ability to engage in constructive service at program, department, college, university and community levels. Willingness and interest in participating in the Wyatt Exploration Program
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving diverse student populations similar to those at the University of Michigan-Flint
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues
