CfA: Lecturer in Modern Japanese Literature
The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a one-year lecturer position in modern Japanese literature and culture to begin in August 2024 for the nine-month academic year. This role requires duties equivalent to a full-time teaching load, which may include a combination of teaching (we anticipate an assignment of three courses per semester) and other departmental service and advising as appropriate.
Teaching-track faculty will not be evaluated on or expected to engage in research or scholarship as part of their appointment.
Applicant Qualifications:
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Japanese literature or related field in hand prior to the start of the appointment and should be able to demonstrate prior successful teaching experience. Applicants should be able to teach our large introductory lecture course, Japanese Civilization, an undergraduate survey of modern Japanese literature, and topics courses in their area of specialization.

- at least two syllabi of proposed undergraduate courses,
- a teaching statement for the year of appointment (up to 1500 words),
- a writing sample (not to exceed 30 pages),
- three letters of recommendation.
