CfA: Lecturer Position in Japanese Buddhist Studies or Chinese Buddhist Studies (Full-time)

The Department of Indian Philosophy and Buddhist Studies in the Faculty of Letters at the University of Tokyo is seeking applications for a full-time lecturer in Japanese Buddhist studies or Chinese Buddhist studies, starting on April 1, 2025, for a period of five years. The department welcomes applications from suitably qualified individuals who meet the following criteria:

1) Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree or be scheduled to obtain it before the start date of the appointment.
2) Applicants should possess a strong background and extensive experience in the study of Japanese Buddhism or Chinese Buddhism.
3) Proficiency in reading Japanese classical literature or classical Chinese texts is indispensable.
4) Ability to teach lectures and seminars in English is required.

Applications should consist of the following kinds of documents:

a) full curriculum vitae (including a list of publications) 
b) a short summary of applicant’s research, including their doctoral dissertation (within one page)
c) one or two previously published papers
d) two signed letters of reference
