CfA: (Post) doctoral Researcher (m/f/d) “Modern Japan in Global Perspective”

ABOUT THE POSITION

  • Fixed term depending on planned academic training (initially expected to be 3 years) with the possibility of extension for another 3 years upon positive interim evaluation of the planned research project
  • 50-100% position, depending on the academic grade, part-time position possible
  • Planned remuneration: salary group E 13 TV-L
  • starting date 1 October 2024 (negotiable)

DUTIES 

  • Write a dissertation or monograph, and one or two articles
  • Teach one or two classes in German or English
  • Contribute to administrative and organizational tasks in research and teaching
  • Commit to develop new research and teaching formats as part of the team

REQUIREMENTS

  • Very good MA or PhD thesis in the fields of History and Cultural Studies, Environmental Studies, Empire Studies, Science and Technology Studies, Area Studies, Social Sciences
  • Very good knowledge of Japanese and English (other East Asian languages or German are desirable)
  • Good organizational and communication skills 
  • Research interests in the history of the Asia-Pacific region from 1700 to the present and/or environmental studies that situate Japan in the (Indo) Pacific Region or relate it other parts of the Globe (China, East Asian, Europe)
