and Politics in East Asia (f/m/d)
Salary Bracket W2 (Reference No. 1-1620)
The key responsibilities of this professorship entail bachelor/master-level teaching in the fields of
• Social, economic and political structures and processes in East Asia
• Economic relations and transformation processes in East Asia with a focus on the Chinese-speaking region
• Transcultural communication in business contexts such as project management and leadership
Other responsibilities include:
• Applied research and third-party funding applications
• Cooperation with partner universities, institutions, and economic actors in Asia
The position holder shall fulfil the official duties of a university teacher pursuant to § 46 of Baden-Württemberg’s State University Act (LHG).
The successful candidate will have an international professional profile, also involving work and management experience in East Asia, which will enrich the university’s three Asian Studies and Management programmes. We also expect a strong commitment to vocationally oriented teaching, collaboration in the further development of our study programmes, and action to increase internationalization and cooperation with our partners, including regular travel to East Asia. The professorship requires the teaching of courses in the German, English and Chinese language at bachelor’s and master’s level. Active participation in academic administration is expected. Experience of obtaining and implementing third-party funded projects in the fields of research, development and knowledge transfer is desirable.
The requirements for employment are laid out in detail in § 47 of Baden-Württemberg’s State University Act (LHG). In particular, applicants should be aware that 1) as a rule, the teaching load amounts to 18 teaching hours of 45 minutes per week in two 15-week semesters; and 2) applicants must demonstrate five years of previous employment, of which at least three were spent outside academe. Professors are initially hired as probationary civil servants. Tenured (lifelong) civil service positions are offered after three years without a further application process, provided that the probationary professor continues to fulfil the requirements of civil service law.
