CfA: Research fellow (m/f/d), PhD Student

The Institute for Political Science under the Faculty of Social Sciences at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main is seeking to employ a
research fellow (m/f/d)
PhD Student
(E 13 TV-G-U, 75% part-time)
for a DFG-funded project for the period of three years and starting from 01.05.2025. The salary grade is based on the job characteristics of the collective agreement applicable to Goethe University (TV-G-U).
Your tasks:
- conduct research for a DFG-funded project (title: “Hydro-hegemony meets great-power rivalry: China, the United States, and changing conflict-cooperation dynamics in the Mekong River Basin”), including the compilation of a water events database
- pursue a PhD on the relationship between great-power rivalries and water-related conflict and cooperation behavior in the Mekong River Basin
Your profile:
- MA degree (in International Relations, Peace and Conflict Studies, Water Management and Governance, Area Studies (South-)East Asia, or another relevant discipline) completed with distinction
- very good knowledge of qualitative (eg, discourse analysis, process tracing) as well as basic knowledge of quantitative social science research methods
- very good knowledge of current theories in International Relations and Peace and Conflict Studies
- previous experience of conducting research in the fields of water conflict and cooperation and/or international security in (South-)East Asia is valuable
- excellent proficiency in English
- commitment, independent and team-working skills, reliability, and organizational abilities
