CfA: Visiting Assistant Professor in East Asian/Global History

Berea College’s Department of History invites applications for a one-year or possibly two-year sabbatical replacement position beginning in August 2025. The specialty is open, but special consideration will be given to candidates with interests in Japanese and/or Chinese history (any period), imperialism, colonial studies, human migrations, or globalization. The teaching load is three courses per semester. Teaching duties include lower-division survey courses in Chinese and Japanese History, upper-division courses in area(s) of specialization and interest, and participation in the College’s General Education program. The successful applicant will fill the position of the Asian historian in 2025-26. Pending approval in 2026, qualified candidates could extend the position by filling in as the sabbatical replacement for the Modern European/Global historian in 2026–2027. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D., previous experience teaching undergraduates, and a clear commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education.
