CfP: Second issue of MENT, a Korean pop culture magazine

CFP: MENT Magazine, Issue 2
Submit your pitches to editors[at]mentmagazine.com by October 15, 2024 for potential inclusion in the second issue.
We are inviting pitches and proposals for the second issue of MENT (mentmagazine.com), a digital magazine on Korean popular culture. MENT publishes critical and creative work that engages with Korean media forms through a variety of cultural, social, and political perspectives.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
– Readings of Korean popular media texts, genres, and industries through the frameworks of sociology and political economy
– Celebrity studies of Korean artists, idols, actors, etc.
– Local, transnational, and/or diasporic communities created through and around K-media
– Connections between Korean popular culture and other forms of asian media
– How Korean popular culture intervenes in a broader public sphere
– Readings of smaller K-pop groups, underrated K-dramas, indie artists, and alternative paradigms of the „popular“
– Experimental multimedia and video works
Proposals/pitches should be about 300-500 words, and include the following elements:
1. Features a clear central argument
2. Explores broader stakes of the argument
3. Demonstrates awareness of the broader landscape of ideas you’re intervening in
4. Timeliness (what recent occasions give rise to your proposed piece)
5. Rigorous but publicly-accessible language
