CfP: Time is Power: Temporality and Caste

Sociologists Gaurav Pathania of Eastern Mennonite U and Bonnie Zare of Virginia Tech are bringing out an edited collection of essays tentatively titled Time is Power: Temporality and Caste. As is commonly known, time is an ontological phenomenon organized around humans’ need for social interaction and collective life, often compelling individuals to be chrono-normative or abide by a rigid clock. Currently little scholarship exists which examines the power of time and temporal agency in an environment organized by systems of caste and other intersecting identities.
This volume, likely to be published by Bloomsbury Press, invites essays which employ intersectional analysis to explore how the span and rhythm of time may alter according to a person’s caste, level of economic deprivation and degree of social capital. We also invite essays which consider the relationship of time and caste in literature, film and/or art.
An abstract of the proposed chapter and a brief author bio is due by November 9.
Here is the complete Call for Chapters for this project.
Feel free to share this invitation widely.
Thank you for your consideration and…(with awareness of the pun) your time!
