Lecture Series „Taiwan in Geschichte und Gegenwart“

Monday 4pm to 6pm, 08.04.2025–15.07.2025

In this lecture series, specialists in Taiwan’s humanities and social sciences research convey historical, linguistic, anthropological, political, religious, and cultural perspectives. They present basic principles and the latest research results and discuss current social, geopolitical, and cultural trends. Each 45-60-minute lecture is followed by a discussion with the audience.

The initiative for this course goes back to a program milestone in the BMBF-funded research project TAP (Taiwan as a Pioneer), in which the three locations Bochum, Tübingen and Trier are connected. The speakers are predominantly German-speaking lecturers with a focus on Taiwan in their sinological or Chinese studies orientation. Only lectures with an English title will be held in English. The lecture series is a result of the Taiwan Working Group of the German Association for Chinese Studies (DVCS) initiated by TAP.

The event is aimed at BA and MA students as well as everyone interested in Taiwan. It will be offered online as a webinar, and the individual sessions are expected to be uploaded online after the end of the summer semester.

Students at the Ruhr University Bochum can acquire credit points by writing a protocol for two sessions.
