Im Namen der Alliance for Research on East Asia (AREA) Ruhr folgt eine Einladung zur Podiumsdiskussion :
Integration in East Asia, Disintegration in Europe?
Nachdem die EU lange als Musterbeispiel regionaler Integration galt, werden im Zuge politischer und ökonomischer Krisen der Zusammenhalt Europas und die europäische Idee zunehmend in Frage gestellt. In (Ost-)Asien wird die Zunahme ökonomischer und gesellschaftlicher Verflechtungen begleitet von einer Reihe politischer Initiativen, die bestrebt sind, die regionale Integration voranzutreiben. Erleben wir gegenwärtig den Niedergang Europas un den Aufstieg eines neuen ostasiatischen Regionalismus? Über diese und andere Fragen diskutieren Carsten Germis (FAZ), Sebastian Bersick (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), Glenn Hook (University of Sheffield) und Werner Pascha (Universität of Duisburg-Essen). Die Diskussion findet auf Englisch statt.

Integration in East Asia, Disintegration in Europe?
The EU has long been deemed the success story of regional integration. Yet, in the wake of economic and political crises, the ideals and cohesion of the European project have increasingly been put into question. At the same time, in East Asia, growing economic and societal ties have prompted efforts to promote regional integration through a number of political initiatives. Do we witness the decline of Europe and the emergence of a new East Asian regionalism? These and other questions will be discussed by Carsten Germis (FAZ), Sebastian Bersick (Ruhr-University Bochum), Glenn Hook (University of Sheffield) and Werner Pascha (University of Duisburg-Essen). The discussion will be held in English.
