Reminder: Vacancy at CESS – Administrative and Communications Assista
The Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS) invites applications for an Administrative and Communications Assistant.
The Administrative and Communications Assistant contributes to the Society’s overall administration, with a specific focus on social media communications, financial administration, and secretarial support to CESS’ Board. She/he needs to have knowledge of social media and the WordPress platform, familiarity with basic finance/accounting principles, and ability to write clearly and succinctly.
The incumbent will be responsible for:
CESS social media communications (currently Twitter and Facebook), specifically supporting CESS blog editors and CESS’ website (WordPress) design and maintenance.
Assisting CESS’ Administrative Coordinator and Treasurer in preparing financial reports, filing the Society’s US annual tax return, and depositing checks received in its postbox. Other administrative and financial tasks may also be required.
Acting as Clerk to the CESS Board, specifically preparing and distributing Board meeting agendas, drafting minutes, and keeping an accurate record of and monitoring Board decisions. The CESS Board meets every month virtually and in person annually during CESS’ Annual Conference.
The incumbent will be expected to attend the Society’s Annual Conference (usually in October/November) and to assist with: (a) conference registration; (b) CESS’ social media presence; and (c) disbursement of travel grants and the management of pre-conference workshops. Travel to, and accommodation at the conference venue, will be reimbursed based on actual, certified costs.
The incumbent must be a citizen of, or legal resident of the United States (US) and as such have the right to work in the US, in order to be able inter alia to manage the Society’s post office box and file its tax returns.
The above duties comprise a workload averaging up to 25 hours per month, which include a weekly conference call with CESS’ (three-member) Executive Committee, plus up to an additional 30 hours for the Annual Conference-related duties outlined above. Remuneration will be at the rate of US$20/hour.
The selected candidate is expected to be available to commence work on May 1, 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter, and is renewable annually.
