CfA: Academia Sinica Fellowship for Doctoral Candidates in the Humanities and Social Sciences (deadline: 2020-03-06)
The Institute of Sociology (IOS), Academic Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan, is now opening the Visiting Fellow Program for Ph.D. candidates. The fellowship is established to assist doctoral candidates to complete their dissertation writing. It also means to provide opportunities for doctoral candidates to be familiar with the intellectual programs and research facilities within Academia Sinica.
Qualification
-Graduate students from domestic or foreign universities who have completed all course work and obtained the status of a doctoral candidate are welcome to apply. Applicants should provide dissertation prospectus related to the current research direction of IOS. (According to law, citizens of People’s Republic of China are not eligible for this fellowship.)
-Applicants who major in sociology or related areas are preferred.
-The fellowship is restricted to full-time graduate students (i.e. students who are not employed.)

-Curriculum Vitae
-Transcript of Course Work
-Certificate of Ph.D. Candidacy
-Dissertation Prospectus
-Selected Publication(s), no more than 3 pieces
-Applicants should provide two letters of recommendation, directly emailed by referees to Director Gwo-shyong Shieh at etshieh@gate.sinica.edu.tw
-Applicants should apply for ONE institution of Academia Sinica only at one time.
Funding Period and Sources
-We offer one year (2020/7/1- 2021/6/30) fellowship for each awarded candidate in the amount of NTD 35,000 per month (Tax included).
The awarded candidate may not receive any other fellowship or scholarship during the fellowship period.
Rights and Obligations:
-Each awarded candidate will be assigned a research fellow of IOS as her/his adviser.
-Shared office as well as access to library and computing facilities will be provided.
-Awarded candidates are required to reside in IOS for at least half of the fellowship funding period (i.e. two to three days out of every week).
-Awarded candidates shall submit a progress report to IOS 10 days prior to the conclusion of the fellowship.
